THE PHILOSOPHY
With House of Auster we aim to break-up with ordinary shopping concepts and reconsider consumerism in a forward thinking way. We live by the “less is more” principle which means: less pieces but with better quality, natural materials (wood, stone, clay, cotton, silk), mindful packaging, service orientated and personal. All items are hand-picked and either one-of-a-kind or available in limited quantities only. Our focus clearly lies on small brands made in Austria and European manufacturers.
We believe in emotional retailing as an important tool for a more sustainable lifestyle. At House of Auster we tell the stories behind each product, why we picked it, who made it, what makes it special. These stories ultimately lead to a special connection with a product and therefore a deeper value. If you cherish a product and its quality you'll hold on to it for a very long time and this, in our eyes, is a modern aspect of sustainability and how to approach consumerism.
It takes quite some time for an Oyster (german „Auster“) to create a pearl. The production process is complex and needs patience. The outcome is something incredibly valuable and precious. At House of Auster we also spent a lot of time creating and finding those „pearls“ - predominantly brands and products that are nowhere else to be found in Vienna. We are a lot about high quality and local produce, therefore we constantly source and scout in order to be able to offer the best, coolest, most
special selection.
Also: An Oyster might look rough from the outside and you‘d never guess what beauty lies inside. It’s this contrast that makes life interesting. The old and the new. The tough and the soft. If you visit our shoppable apartment at Neubaugürtel 20, you‘d find a lot of parallels…
The apartment looks different every week. Sometimes its just a small change, sometimes a whole room transformed. So make sure to stop by frequently, it will never be the same.

I've always dreamt of a special place where people get excited and inspired again. Where they can find incredible things that bring them joy and add value but also a place where the community can engage and connect with others. My favorite is the personal contact with our customers. Showing them around, making them feel at home, serving coffee, offering styling and decoration tipps if they like. This kind of hospitality, attention to detail and service is sometimes really missing at stores and House of Auster is all about that.
